"Discuss the role of the Finance Commission in strengthening cooperative federalism in India." (150 words)
One coach for Prelims, Mains and everything in between.
Expert answer evaluation is expensive and slow, and plenty of aspirants prepare without a mentor at all. Kalam gives every aspirant a patient coach that's available any time.
Mains answer evaluation
Click a photo of your handwritten answer. Kalam reads it and scores structure, content, examples and conclusion against what the question demands. It tells you exactly what to add, cut or restructure, and you can rewrite and compare.
Current affairs, mapped
A short daily brief from public sources like PIB, with each story tagged to the GS paper and syllabus topic it belongs to. Every brief ends with a practice Mains question.
Prelims practice
Practice questions modelled on past-year patterns, with explanations of why each option is right or wrong. Your weak areas get practised more often.
A study plan that adapts
Tell Kalam your attempt year, optional and daily hours. It builds a week-by-week plan and adjusts it when life gets in the way.
Doubts, any time
Stuck on the basic structure doctrine or monsoon mechanics at midnight? Ask, and get a clear explanation with links to the standard sources to read next.
Progress you can see
Track answer scores over time, topic by topic. See what's improving, what's slipping, and what to focus on this week.
Small, steady practice beats last-minute panic.
Kalam fits around your day, whether you're a full-time aspirant or preparing alongside a job. You need less than an hour of structured practice a day.
Built for Hindi-medium aspirants too.
Good material in Hindi is hard to find, and quality answer evaluation in Hindi is even rarer. Kalam evaluates answers written in Hindi, explains concepts in Hindi or Hinglish, and lets you switch any time.
Honest about what AI can and can't do.
Practice feedback, not official marks
Kalam's scores are a guide to help you improve. They don't predict your actual UPSC marks, and we'll never claim they do.
Always cross-check facts
AI can make mistakes. Kalam points you to standard sources such as NCERTs, official reports and PIB, so you can verify anything important.
Your data stays yours
Your answers and notes are private and never sold. You can delete your data at any time. Privacy policy →
Questions aspirants ask us
Can AI really evaluate a UPSC Mains answer?
It can give useful, consistent feedback on what makes answers score well: structure, relevance to the question's directive, coverage of dimensions, examples and data, and conclusion. It's like a sharp senior who reads every answer you write. It doesn't replace a mentor's judgement, and its practice scores aren't official marks.
Can I upload handwritten answers?
Yes. Write on paper like in the exam, take a clear photo, and upload it. You can also type your answer if you prefer.
Does it work for Hindi medium?
Yes. Kalam reads and evaluates answers written in Hindi and can explain concepts in Hindi, English or Hinglish.
What about the Essay paper and Ethics case studies?
Both are supported at launch. Optionals will come later, starting with the most popular ones.
Which exams will you support next?
We're starting with UPSC CSE, where good answer-writing feedback is hardest to find. Next come State PSC exams (such as UPPSC, BPSC, MPPSC and RAS), whose Mains test the same skill, followed by SSC and banking exams. Tell us your exam when you sign up and we'll prioritise accordingly.
Is Kalam affiliated with UPSC?
No. Kalam is an independent preparation tool and is not affiliated with, or endorsed by, the Union Public Service Commission.
What powers Kalam?
Kalam is built on Claude by Anthropic, with our own evaluation rubrics, syllabus mapping and question bank on top.
